Holden Evening Prayer

Sermon: “Wing It”

Song: You Are My All in All

March 29, 2020

Opening Hymn: “Rise Up O Saints of God”

Prayer and Confession

Wash me, and I shall be clean.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

Hide your face from my sins, and do not cast me out.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

We confess our sins before God and one another.

Pause for silence and reflection.

Merciful Lord, We come before you with open hearts. We do not always follow our Savior’s lead. We insist on our own way, putting worldly things before you. We doubt, we discriminate; we scatter—preferring darkness to the brilliance of your truth. For all this we ask your mercy and forgiveness, that our spirits may be renewed. Amen.

As a loving shepherd gathers his sheep, so our Lord protects and cares for us. As patient as a parent for a wayward child, so is God’s mercy for us. Let us rejoice that we have received forgiveness, and that every day our Lord seeks to renew us in the image of our Creator, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn of the Day: “Will You Come and Follow Me?”

Closing Hymn: “I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light”

Lyrics are beneath the video

I want to walk as a child of the light
I want to follow Jesus
God sent the stars to give light to the world
The star of my life is Jesus

In Him there is no darkness at all
The night and the day are both alike
The Lamb is the light of the city of God
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus

I want to see the brightness of God
I want to look at Jesus
Clear sun of righteousness, shine on my path
And show me the way to the Father

In Him there is no darkness at all
The night and the day are both alike
The Lamb is the light of the city of God
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus

I’m looking for the coming of Christ
I want to be with Jesus
When we have run with patience the race
We shall know the joy of Jesus

In Him there is no darkness at all
The night and the day are both alike
The Lamb is the light of the city of God
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus

Blessing and Dismissal

Thank you for worshipping online with us! Today’s benediction is modified from what one of my (Pr. Kevin’s) friends posted on Facebook:

Worship is online but this doesn’t mean your church community is closed. It just means we’re not gathering in person in order to protect each other, and especially the most vulnerable among us.

Your pastors and staff are still here for you.

As one person said yesterday,
Conversations aren’t canceled.
Relationships aren’t canceled.
Love isn’t canceled.
Self-care isn’t canceled.
Hope isn’t canceled.

Be safe–may God protect you and your loved ones this week!

Marked with the cross of Christ forever we are claimed, gathered and sent for the sake of the world!

Thanks be to God.

You Are Not Alone

Sunday Worship – March 22

Opening Hymn: “Rock of Ages”

Prayer with Confession

We look to you to give us our food in due season;

When you open your hand, we are filled with good things.

When you hide your face, we are dismayed.

When you send forth your spirit, you renew the face of the ground.

We confess our sins before God and one another.

Pause for silence and reflection.
